James W. Lewis is first and foremost a disciple of Jesus Christ, who seeks to live out the demands of the gospel in the world. He is a native of Houston, Texas, and the second oldest child of ten children born to Rev. John J. R. and Betty Joyce Lewis. He has been married to Barbara Kaye for 39 years and is the father of two beautiful daughters, Andrea and Kimberli, and the grandfather of two equally beautiful granddaughters, Ameris and Nya. Dr. Lewis received his M.Div. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in Theology and Ethics from Duke University. He currently serves as Associate Dean, Professor of Theology and Ethics, and Director of the D.Min. program at the Anderson University School of Theology in Indiana.
Experiencing shalom, God’s wholeness in all relationships, is the pervading and guiding theme of his life. He and his family worship at and are accountable to the Sherman Street Church of God in Anderson, Indiana, where he enjoys welcoming all into the House of God. He finds the proclamation and teaching of the Word of God, like honey in the honey comb, to be sweet to the taste. His friendships in the Ekklesia Project represent the kind of formative community for which he yearns.
