I just finished reading James Howard Kustler’s The Long Emergency (2005), and I don’t know whether I should become Amish, sell my cars and move into town to become a prophet of the impending social turmoil that is likely to accompany post-petroleum American life, or just feel depressed.  In any case, Kunstler seems to me right when he says that most of us living in cultures like the United States face an impending massive shift in the ways we live, and need now to begin “making other arrangements.”

Mega-church conglomerate Willow Creek, envied and emulated by countless evangelical communities across North America, has recently disavowed its core philosophy of ministry. Analyzing the data from a comprehensive, multi-year study, undertaken to determine what programs were most effective in nurturing Christian discipleship (and which ones weren‘t), the church’s leadership has concluded: “we made a mistake.”
